Below are answers to some frequently asked questions regarding dive trips on Tanks-A-Lot Dive Charters.

What are the costs for a Tanks-A-Lot dive trip?
|
Our scuba dive charter prices are based on the distance traveled to the dive sites. The typical 2 tank trip to most of our artificial reefs, natural ledges and wrecks costs $80. Like any professional service we will settle up when the service is rendered (after we get back from our dive trip).
2 tank dive trips to the Sheridan or Blackthorn wrecks are $100.
The dive trip cost does not include tank rental or other equipment rental. Pleae refer to our Rates webpage for more details.

How do I get to your Dive Charter boat?
|
Our dive boat Can-Tank-Erous is located behind the baithouse at Seminole Marina. The address is 190 Seminole St. Clearwater, FL 33755.

What are your departure times for Dive Trips?
|
On weekends that we depart twice daily, the morning trip will depart at 7:30 and the afternoon trip will depart at 14:30. We recommend that you arrive at least 1/2 hour before departure to load the boat and complete the liability waiver forms. Please check the calendar to confirm the times for your specific dive trip.
On weekdays, we depart at 7:30am in the morning. Please arrive at 7:00am in order to load gear and tanks to depart at 7:30am. Most dive trips are two tanks and last approximately 6 hours. Trips reserved in advance for distances further then 12 nautical miles will take longer.

Should I bring drinks or food?
|
|
You are certainly welcome to bring your own drinks or lunch/snacks. Tanks-A-Lot provides bottled water and some snacks (pretzels, chips, etc.) on our trips. We have a cooler for anything you would like to keep chilled.

Do you provide rental dive equipment?
|
Yes, we provide dive gear for rental. We have BCs, wetsuits, tanks, masks, fins, booties, weights, etc. When calling to book your trip, please let us know what rental equipment you will require. For costs for rental equipment, please refer to our Rates webpage.

What is your cancellation policy?
|
|
With safety in mind, once a spot is reserved we will make all efforts to run the dive trip. Weather and mechanical issues are considerations in our go/no go decision. Should Tanks-A-Lot Dive Charters cancel the trip, there is no cancellation fee assessed.
If however, the diver cancels their spot within 48 hours of the trip departure a cancellation/no show fee will be assessed.

What certifications are required to dive?
|
|
In order to scuba dive, one must be at least open water certified from a recognized scuba training agency. (Dive certification cards will be checked prior to departure -BRING YOUR C-CARD.) People who are not certified to scuba dive may travel with us as "bubble-watchers" for a reduced fee.

What are the depths of most Tanks-A-Lot Dive Sites?
|
|
Most of the dive sites visited on the normal 2 tank $80 dive trip are between 40 to 60 feet deep.
The Sheridan and Blackthorn wreck dives are 70-80 feet deep. The deeper dives are futher distance to travel and therefore more expensive.

Why dive the Gulf of Mexico?
|
According to a popular dive publication: "Diving in the waters off Clearwater is one of the best kept secrets in Florida." Pinellas county has one of the most active artificial reef programs in the state. Several wrecks have been sunk within recreational diving limits. Old coast lines from the ice ages formed natural ledges at regular intervals from the current coast.

What am I likely to see on a dive?
|
Clearwater artificial reefs attract schools of mackeral, eagle rays, goliath grouper, sharks, turtles, dolphins, tropical fishes, hard and soft corals, barracuda, and plenty of small critters.

Do you allow Spearfishing on your dive trips?
|
|
No, because we a Coast Guard Certified vessel we do not allow spearfishing on our dive trips. To help preserve our delicate environment; spearfishing or the collection of living creatures is prohibited.

Where can I continue my scuba education by getting advanced certifications?
|
|
There are many outstanding scuba training facilities in the Tampa Bay area. Many use our services during their open water training. Also, many scuba training agencies offer a referral program. A scuba training facility in your home town will conduct the academics and pool sessions, while a facility in the Tampa Bay area will conduct the open water evaluations.

What about tips for crew members?
|
|
As with any service, tips are greatly appreciated. Our crews works only for tips. They will greatly appreciate them. A typical amount is 15% of the fees paid.

Do you accept credit cards?
|
|
Yes, we are now accepting credit cards. Credit card processing fees are expensive and thus we prefer cash. However, we are capable of processing your dive trip charges at the dock by credit card.
